In the Dolomitenlauf, practically everyone in the small village of Obertilliach is involved in hosting the event, whether that’s the local farmers with experience operating heavy machinery who groom the trails to perfection or the Musikkapella, or local brass band, who play folk songs for skiers as they cross the finish line.

The Val di Fiemme in Italy has been host to many championship cross country ski events, including the World Cup, World Championships and in 2026, the Winter Olympic Games. But skiing in the Val di Fiemme is not just for elite racers. Citizen skiers from around the world can experience this championship venue as they cruise through the valley in the Marcialonga.

The König Ludwig Lauf is named after Bavaria’s King Ludwig, who is famous for his eccentricity and building Schloss Neuschwanstein, which inspired the Disney Castle. The race itself starts in front of the Ettal Monastery, which is one of Bavaria’s oldest breweries. Skiers can quench their thirst at the finish line with a bottle of Ettal’s finest brews. Each of these unique events offers a literal flavor of their region.

Lumi helps facilitate experiences at these unique events by bringing local trip leaders who can do more than just apply the fastest wax for their trails. They can introduce travelers to the local cultures, traditions and dishes. Of course, as the aim of the Worldloppet is to bring skiers together, Lumi’s small groups offer the opportunity to meet new skiers and make new friends over the course of your trip. Let your trip leaders take care of your travel logistics and ski equipment while you explore your surroundings, make new friends or simply relax at your hotel’s spa.
