Norway - Holmenkollen Trip
In 2023, Lumi guests at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival were featured in the New York Times
Experience one of Norway’s biggest celebrations of the year: the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. Start your trip in Lillehammer, site of the 1994 Olympic Games and proverbial birthplace of skiing. March is the perfect time to visit with long, sunny days and plenty of snow. Walk out the door of your hotel and stroll the Storgata cobbled pedestrian street running through the center of town. Ski the gentle Inga-Låmi trail and spend two days exploring Sjusjøen, a skier’s paradise. Stop in one of the many trailside huts and sample the Norwegian delicacy of Brunost: the sweet brown cheese that melts in your mouth and is typically served atop thin waffles with jam. Throughout the week, excitement builds for the the Holmenkollen World Cup.
Continue your vacation on the Holmenkollen plateau: spend four nights at your hotel overlooking the Oslo fjord while you cheer for your favorite World Cup athletes at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. Away from the races, stroll through Oslo’s old town and along the banks of the fjord or ski right from your hotel to your heart’s content, in a country where skiing is the way of life. A visit to the Norwegian Ski Museum and Holmenkollen ski jump provide context for the importance of skiing in Norway. Try another favorite local activity: sledding the Korketrekkeren or “corkscrew” trail, accessible by tram so you can simply enjoy the childhood thrill of swooshing downhill. After the festival weekend, raise a glass with your travel companions to your week of skiing and discovery in Norway.
