New Years Greetings from Cavalese

Lumi Trip Leader Raphi spreading some holiday cheer in Seefeld on Chrismas Day

Happy New Year! A big snowfall in the Alps on Christmas Eve brought a winter wonderland to Nordic trail networks across Europe, where ski areas like Seefeld, Austria have over 200 km of trails open. The first Lumi trip of the 2025 winter season – the Tour de Ski trip – kicked off in Cavalese, Italy yesterday!! Guests arrived a couple days early to ring in the New Year at festive celebrations in Munich, Germany and Verona, Italy before meeting up for their journey to Cavalese for the start of their trip – and the site of Lumi’s 2026 Olympic Games Trips! After settling into their hotel in the village and enjoying a welcome dinner prepared by their hotel’s chef-owner last night, they’re heading up to ski the scenic trails in Passo Lavazé this morning.

Lumi guests in Lago di Tesero

An exciting start to the Tour de Ski in Toblach/Dobbiaco, Italy, continues on the 2026 Olympic courses in Lago di Tesero, just outside of Cavalese, this afternoon. Lumi guests will be cheering trailside for the Classic Sprinters racing this afternoon before Saturday’s Skiathlon and final Alpe del Cermis hill climb on Sunday.

This Sunday is also the Rampa con i Campioni, the Climb with Champions, where citizen skiers attempt the same Alpe del Cermis hill climb that World Cup skiers race up in the afternoon – a grueling climb up an alpine ski hill to the top of Alpe del Cermis. It's a 9km mass start Freestyle event. The first 2.5 km take skiers through Lago di Tesero ski stadium, before continuing along the Marcialonga track to the Final Climb. Of course, for a more relaxing trip to the top of the Alpe Cermis climb, a scenic cable car can also bring spectators to the famous finish of the Tour de Ski.

In just 13 months, this same charming Italian village will host the cross-country ski events for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games! Preparations are underway. Will you be part of the excitement in Cavalese next winter? We recently announced the Lumi trips to the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games. The Opening and Middle week trips are nearly full, but there is still some space available. Visit www.lumi.ski/wog to learn more, express interest and reserve your spot before Wednesday, January 15!
